summer.
oh summer! the season where one naps endlessly, climbs trees, floats down rivers, and when the crustpunks migrate north for cooler climes. a time for rest.

we hope you've been doing well. we're kind of in a muddle right here, trying to figure out what direction will be best. everyone is full of tasks. we hope to get on rail back again soon.

in the meanwhile, i'd like to tell you about a new project we have going in new orleans. it's not all that artistic in its current phase, but will get to be that way soon! i'd like to introduce the NOLACYCLE bicycle mapping project. we're mapping the entire city of new orleans to discover and record its bicyclability. not only is it fun, didactic, and chummy, but it's also wonderfully practical and useful, too.

click here to go to the official site!

right now we are doing the actual bike-mapping: we're riding up and down EVERY street in new orleans. after that we'll assemble the actual map via illustrator and (possibly) some GIS (geographic information system) software, discuss grants and funding possibilities, have these maps printed, and distribute them to the city!

it all sounds very nice. if you live in new orleans and love to bike JOIN US!

cool art tools for cadets.
i thought some of you might appreciate some cool art tools we found online.

web-based graphic design suite
the first is aviary, a new web-based suite of graphic design tools. right now they only have an image editor called phoenix (think photoshop online) and a pattern generator called peacock (for all of your digital texture and psychedelic-art needs). they're also eventually going to have font editors, vector editors, 3d mappers, video editors, terrain generators, and even music and audio editors! all of the tools are named after birds, and we like birds.

the goal is for these not to be silly internet apps, but fully-functioning applications for serious business. i have used phoenix and peacock, and they're pretty fun. they have some neat features, like tracking all sources that you use for your art, and all derivatives made from your art. you can download the images you create, or share them directly from aviary's webspace.

it's currently in its beta phase, but we have an account if you want to try it. make sure you have the latest flash!

a.viary.com

hover for login info.

effortlessly spirit away webmedia
if it's on the internet, you can steal it. some times more easily than other times. here is a quick way to download anything you hear on myspaceship or anything you see on youtubes.

file2hd.com will allow you to download any song a band offers you to hear on their myspace in mp3 format. simple. just give the url. this probably also works with videos and other media from any website you can think of, unless if it's deeply entrenched in flash or something.

vixy.net will allow you to grab any video from youtube, and also offers you the opportunity to only grab an mp3 from a video (if you only are looking for a song for example, or sound effects).

I hope some of you can put these useful tools to use! See you soon.

this news is news.
Hello! We're quite busy around here, trying to fix things up and keep it fresh and interesting. We're doing a few changes on the website, and working on a backlog of (oh horrors!) administrative work. Here are some issues at hand.

ONE! ~ NEWS We now have, well, a NEWS page. Any big updates or small relevant things will end up here. Check it out from time to time.

TWO! ~ HELP WANTED Art Party seeks dedicated intern, workstudy, or fulltime internaut. If you have some spare time and want to be more involved in the Party, contact us. It's sometimes difficult to run everything with the limited staff-to-member ratio. If you want to help out with the website, with membership dealings, or with some brainstorming, please contact us, I say! We REALLY would like that. Any ideas at all are always welcome.

THREE! ~ ART PAGE Our ART page is finally all back up on our site! You still have your own individual blog, but it all funnels into our site right here. Do you like it? Comments, questions? If you forgot how to post, please get in touch with us. It's easy. We want to see your art! And sorry about the whole Y! Alert thing, and then the whole "pipes" thing. We only got this back together due to an anonymous PHP-coding donation.

FOUR! ~ EVENTS PAGE Our EVENTS page has been updated, with a list of past Art Parties, and a sneak peak at some upcoming events at Py's Makeout Club in New Orleans. If you have an event you want to schedule with us, contact us please. We'll work with you. Event updates will probably also happen here on the news page.

FIVE! ~ NEW MEMBERS We swear that we're making your blogs and forum access accounts. Once we can steal computers, printers, and straight-edge cutters again, we'll probably get you your membership cards too. Hang on in there. We won't forget.

That's all for right now. Please tell us what y'all are thinking. We love hearing from you.
