bland. bland. bland.

look at our nation's capital. it's studded and spangled with monuments, government buildings, and other national icons. the list can continue for a great length: the white house, the capitol building, the washington monument, the lincoln memorial, the jefferson memorial. now think of other symbols of america. mount rushmore, for example. or think of a great court house or post office, with large columns and marble facades.

what do these all have in common? they're all symbols of our nation, they're all important, they're all large, and they're all blank. blank! white, great, wide, open unused canvases!

bland! bland! bland!

how can we allow this to be? no wonder so many things are awry. the things to which so many americans look for inspiration, protection, and pride are, indeed, empty in a most obvious sense!

this will not do. citizens! we must begin to fill in the blanks. our forefathers set up a more-or-less agreeable foundation, but we have allowed it to fall into neglect. we never picked up our tools and went to work on realizing their dreams to the fullest. we have created an empty society.

we have had the black and white lines for a long while. now let's add the colors. and don't worry about staying within the lines, either. everything needs a little splash of some more color. be messy. we'll forgive you.

it's all out there waiting for you. bear up your tools and cause a revolution. make it beautiful. we can't live in a world without color. we surely can not expect to live to our fullest in a land where the leaders rule from clean and colorless castles.

do they represent you? no. you have a face. you have a soul. you have color. let it out. share it with the world. make change. color-in my country.
